Easy Made From Scratch Biscuits
I have lots of fond memories of being small, and most of them revolved around reading books and didn’t really realize I was such an avid reader until I started packing up my old room at my parent’s house. I found myself becoming incredibly excited with each title, from Stephanie’s Ponytail, to The Suns Asleep Behind the Hill I remembered reading them with together. One of my most favorite books, Sodysallyratus, shared a recipe for Easy Made From Scratch Biscuits and if I was especially nice every once in a while on the weekend (and she had a little more time) my mom would make them for breakfast or dinner.
When I made them for this post it was like stepping back in time. As soon as I split them with a knife and placed butter inside they were just as beautiful as I remembered and they tasted just as I remembered. Breakfast on the weekends – specifically Sunday morning was always a big part of our weekly ritual. Mom would make so much bacon that our house smelled like it the rest of the week, which was fantastic and whether we had biscuits or pancakes being together that morning was nothing short of magical.
As we got older Sunday breakfasts became more spread out because my siblings and I would get up later but when we were young rolling out of bed in our pajamas first thing was perfect. I still occasionally get invited over on Sunday mornings, and it’s always a welcome addition if we haven’t started breakfast at the house. These easy biscuits made from scratch will always remind me of those wonderful years.
You start out by preheating the oven. Then you put cream of tartar, salt, baking soda and flour together in a mixing bowl. Next you’ll be sifting them together, you can use your hands or just whisk them like I did.
Then you need to use a dough blender to cut in the butter in small pieces until it gets a crumbly appearance.
After this step you add the milk and eggs. Stir this mixture with a fork until the dough will move behind the fork.
You’ll now need to knead the dough between 18 to 20 times.
Cut the dough into individual biscuits.
Bake them from 13-15 minutes until they are golden brown.
Finally, slap some butter, jam, or whatever you fancy and on these made from scratch biscuits and take a BIG BITE!
